Mr. Ernst Benz

Mr. Ernst Benz

As an aviator and inventor, Mr. Benz was distinctly aware of the need for accurate and instantly legible instruments while airborne. He developed an innovative aircraft instrument chronograph based on World War II aviation models.

Micro Aircraft Chronograph

Micro Aircraft Chronograph

This design, the Benz Micro Aircraft Chronograph, became standard equipment for many single engine places, military trainers, jets and sailplanes, first in Europe and then throughout the world.

ChronoScope

ChronoScope

The Original ChronoScope was initially created in response to the demands Mr. Benz received from his fellow aviators for a reliable and easily legible chronograph. The ChronoScope has evolved since it’s early release, but has remained true to its unique historically inspired styling and the characteristics of the original model.

LEONID KHANKIN

LEONID KHANKIN

A second-generation watchmaker and talented craftsman by nature, Ernst Benz Managing & Creative Director, Leonid Khankin was born in St. Petersburg, Russia.

Watches first captivated Khankin when he was young as he grew up working alongside his father, one of the most prolific and talented watchmakers of his generation.

Having worked in collaboration with Ernst Benz for several years, Khankin realized the need for a complete calendar moon face chronograph and worked to develop the company’s third and most complex model, the ChronoLunar. The ChronoLunar debuted in 2002 as the company’s premier model and garnered abundant praise in the industry.

CHRONOLUNAR

In 2005 the Khankin family took over Ernst Benz with Leonid Khankin at the helm of the brand. Khankin ushered in a new era for the company, with the ever growing and expanding Great Circle Collection. The Collection grew with new timepieces whose inspiration comes from not only the founder himself, but based on the history of travel and aviation timepieces.

Khankin’s passion for the collection and brand are boundless and he works to ensure that all Ernst Benz timepieces are built to his exacting criteria and without compromise, yielding the highest quality of precision timepieces that the brand is renowned for.

DIAMOND LIKE CARBON

DIAMOND LIKE CARBON

The brand’s evolution has grown to include the Officer series, a more refined interpretation of the original mid-century military watches that inspired the collection. The Officer was released to help commemorate a decade from when the first ChronoLunar was produced, the model from which the Officer draws inspiration.

DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) is a unique, high-tech black coating developed for aerotatuicical use that when applied makes the surface of the steel case more scratch resistant, while creating a modern appearance and offering an updated interpretation of the vintage aesthetic that Ernst Benz is known for.

Today Ernst Benz continues to develop and build Great Circle timepieces inspired by The Spirit of Travel and The Art of Watchmaking.
